My Magazine Content Page.
This is my finished content page. I am very pleased with my content page. It has taken a long time to accomplished and I can finally say that I have finished. Let me know if you agree. Thank you very much.
Evaluation for my media product.
- In what ways does your produt use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
The conventions of my student magazine cover includes, having a banner with headlines surrounding an image in the middle. I have also included an advertisement section at the bottom of my cover page to get the targeted audiences attention. The front cover has to include a title to make it easy to be identified. The front cover, has to include the price and issue date aswell. In addition to this, the editor or the name of the person who took the photo should be mentioned. The content pages are not meant to be in order, instead it is to give an effect for a specific purpose. For instance, a typical contents page should standout and include eye-catching stories. The pages may start like so : Page 4 - The boy with his final "results". Page 7- Want to know your horoscopes? Page 13- Did you know the advantages of doing any kind of sport? instead of, Page 1...., Page 2 ...... then Page 3 ...........
The stories discussed, in the magazine should attract us immediately and I believe it does, in my magazine. I have included all these conventions in my magazine. I have put my editorial on the left-side of my content page as at eye- level . This unusual, because most magazine's I have read, are at the right hand corner of the page.
- How does your media product represent particular social groups?
I have represented teenagers, who are school students in my magazine. I have also made reference to the teenagers by introducing the idea of the students prom which takes place at the end of a school year. I have discussed why going to university is the best option. Finally I have talked about St Edmunds Day, this is where all students go off the school premises and do a day of activities. I am not convinced that stereotype students may want to read my magazi ne because of how unusual the title is. The magazine discusses mostly academinc things such as GCSE results and awards. However there is a slight possibility that sterotypes who admire fashion , might be willing to read my magazine because it does discuss certain aspects of the fashion industry.
- What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
- Who would be the audience for your media product?
The audience for my magazine would be from 13 to17 years of age. The gender, would be mainly females because I have mainly used feminine colours in my magazine. However, I have written about the recent sports in the news, so a small minority, are welcome to read my magazine. The main audience; females would have to be people that are forward-looking. The targetted audience, should have some interest in their education and the many possible advantages it brings along with it. For example, If I read a book on how to make a music magazine, I will then be able to experience what is like to take camera shots of artists performing and then I will be able to know how to make an actual music magazine. Therefore, in the longrun, when I start thinking of how to get a job, the skills that I used to make a music magazine, will enable me make this into a profession. The targetted audience should atleast, have some interest in doing any kind of exercise whether it be from anything such as walking, upto rowing a boat.
In my opinion, the title "Studious" is first of all absolutely unusual and secondly a very empowering word, to describe a student. Therefore I thought that the word would and should reflect that same identity in my magazine. In addition to this, I find it sounds very similar to the word "Student". Therefore I have not dispersed from the main topic, which was to make the magazine, seem like a college/student magazine. I also included a section that talks about proms for 16 and 17 year olds. I have talked about what students have acheived academically, which should engage the 13 years olds minds aswell. I have also included a real- life story that should involve all groups of age. For the whole magazine cover, I have used bright feminine colours that will catch the audiences attention immediately. My magazine speaks to the main audience in first person, as if I was talking to them in person. It speaks to them in a very conversational manner.
- What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
In order to complete my media product, I used photoshop, publisher, a scanner, a digital camera and blogger. I have learnt, that it is crucial to know the functions of the different technologies in order to complete your product. I have also learnt that it is not always straight forward to do, as you can sometimes get confused between the names for the tools. One thing I have definately learnt, is that, it is also fast and efficient in enabling you get a piece of information across to the audience.

This is my finished magazine cover, however I must confess that it was not an easy or straight forward task to do, but I have finally completed my preliminary task ,which took a great deal of hours to finish.
It has been a very successful peice of coursework in general .
I now, know what I need to improve upon in the next coursework- which will be a music magazine.

Media magazine Cover- The challenges.
When doing my cover and making it look the way it does , I had difficulty in correcting my spelling. I battled, with using the clone stamp on photoshop, corectly as I could not get the right type of shade colour; which was the colour grey. Therefore, it took me a while to cover the orginal writing and eventually write over it. Now, I have successfully accompolished this task and very pleased to say that the clone stamp was a very benefical and efficient tool for me.
My Media Magzine Cover.
So , I am still in the process of making my cover look right and ready. It is looking very good in my opinion by the way what do you think.
I Would be glad to get some feedback from you!

First Attempt Trying How To Do A Magazine Cover.
To have been able to do this, I copied an image online. To make it look like an actual cover for a magazine I then had to alter it and cut the background which I didn't really need. I had to copy my selected piece onto a new page and I got there end. Finally ,I the wanted to see how well, one of my designed titles would fit in with the image. As you can see, it does not look too bad, since this is one of my titles I can try out my other designs.

Photoshop Task - Creating the cover of a cookbook.
I achievied this by going on to a photoshop site. It was a great task for me to do and I really enjoyed doing this, even though this task is not get done ain a short space of time.First of all, I had to copy the picture of a crab on to another new page and then select certain areas and re-size it via the marquee selection tool. I then got a chnce to use the side bar tools one to help make my work look like this. The paint brush, helped me paint small gaps that I could not fill in with the paint bucket, so I found this very useful and beneficial. I then had to add the lemons using marquee selection tools again and this waas very hadr for me to do as I had to try select the whole of the lemon with the one chance I had. If this doid not happen then I would have to do it again, but I am glad to say that I did acheive this successfully.
My next task was to make a spine for this 'cookbook' and textualise it as you can see, I ended up using the colour green with a masaic texture. For my background, I ended up using the colour blue.Overall, I think that the outcome has been very advantageous and will certainly help me complete my second piece of coursework which is approachng very soon.

Content Analysis of Three Magazines
Student iD issue No.13
- The first double page spread we see that the content page is a series of pictures across both pages. All the people in the photographs are smiling, which is a positive impression to readers. Colloquial language is used alongside an interview of a teacher, to inform the reader that the main target audince is for young teenagers.
- Colourful backgrounds are on each page, to attract the reader and make them pay attention to the information provided.
- A double page spread of a 'creative writing' story to inspire young children to read and write in the near future.
- The layout of the text is not in a standard form, words have been slanted or have been put in a bigger font than other text on the page.Different style fonts are used according to the topic.
- Unlike the 'Student ip' magazine, a plain background for most pages in the magazine has been used.
- Health issues are mainly issued in this magazine like anorexia, your weight and drinking alchol signifying to us the readers; that the main target audience in not for young tennagers but older tennagers which is different from the 'Student iD' magazine.
- This magazine also talks about teenagers reading books, however the only difference is that, this magazine talks about World Book Day whereas the other magazine provides you with a variety of books to read for pleasure and in your own spare time.
- In comparison to both magazines 'Student iD' and 'Common Sense'. At the back of the magazines, there is a page explaining what university is about and involves. This suggests that the target audience is mainly for old tennagers whereas the other magazine is aimed at young teenagers.
- Text is mainly in coloumn form, to make the magazine look neat and formal unlike 'student iD' and 'Common Sense'. This makes the reader have a positvie impression of the magazine therefore older teenagers are likely to buy the magazine.
- In in the middle page of the magazine, there is a 2 doublepage spread of girls and boys being unexpectedly photographed, which is not shown in the above migazines.
- A photograph of the prime minister - Gordon Brown has been placed at eyelevel, to make you see this first and read the article. The title is in red signifying to the reader that the article is very important. The magazine in general takes into consideration childrens education from a political perspective and not an academic view.
- Coming up events are talked about such as films and sports events. To engage you the readers to have an active mind .
Textual Analysis of Magazine's Content.
Common Sense by Luton Sixth Form and editors Katie Firmin and Katie Hollingsworth- The headline is very bold and in a big typeface to catch the reader attention. The layout of the page mainly shows a series of picture opposite the actual content page to introduce the readers to the magazine. An ellipsis has been used to indicate to the reader that there is more inside therefore a lot of information is in the magazine. A rhetorical question has been included to create a sense of humour to the magazine and make the reader want to know more. The content page is not categorical but numerical in order therefore it is easy for the reader to follow, this forms part of the brand identity. To the side of the page a column has been made only for images, explaining what each of the pages discuss, therefore if a teenager does not prefer reading a piece of text, then alongside the text will be an image which the reader can look at. The magazine is flexible in teenager preference, which is an advantage for the readers as well as producers. Exclusives are listed to excite the reader in the editorial and highlighted in the colour blue to make you see these words or phrases first. The mode of address is very colloquial and then used in the editorial to inform the reader that the magazine’s main purpose is to entertain teenagers. A caption has been situated underneath a smaller image of the magazine, to guide our attention to the person that created the design and photograph.
Textual Analysis of Magazine Cover.
Common Sense-The cover page includes a masthead, reading out the word ‘Common Sense’. This gives a positive impression to readers, because it’s an unusual name for a magazine. The magazine gives out a different vibe to readers, bright and vibrant colours have also been used to make the magazine appealing to the target audience. Above the masthead ‘FREE’ has been spelt to signify to the reader that you do not have to pay for it, therefore you can get access a copy of magazine without thinking of where allocate this. A date has been issued at the top of the page to give the magazine authority and power. The only text that has been placed on the front cover are topics that take place in everyday life situations such as driving, teen pregnancies and financial dilemmas- budgets. These are all cover lines. Therefore this signifies to us that that the producers care about the public’s well being and safety. The photograph is in black and white whereas the text surrounding the image is in colour making the girl stand out , in addition to this a midium close up shot has been taken. She looks intriguing and also looks off the page in a way, which makes us curious about her. The biggest cover line has been written infront on top of the photograph telling us that there is a link between the photogragh and Gareth Jones.
