Evaluation for my media product.

  •  In what ways does your produt use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
The conventions of my student magazine cover includes, having a banner with headlines surrounding an image in the middle. I have also included an advertisement section at the bottom of my cover page to get the targeted audiences attention. The front cover has to include a title to make it easy to be identified. The front cover, has to include the price and issue date aswell. In addition to this, the editor or the name of the person who took the photo should be mentioned. The content pages are not meant to be in order, instead it is to  give an effect for a specific  purpose. For instance, a typical contents page should standout and include eye-catching stories. The pages may start like so : Page 4 - The boy with his final "results". Page 7- Want to know your horoscopes? Page 13- Did you know the advantages of doing any kind of sport? instead of,  Page 1...., Page 2 ...... then Page 3 ...........

The stories discussed, in the magazine should attract us immediately and I believe it does, in my magazine. I have included all these conventions in my magazine. I have put my editorial on the left-side of my content page as at eye- level . This unusual, because most magazine's I have read, are at the right hand corner of the page.

  • How does your media product represent particular social groups?
I have represented teenagers, who are school students in my magazine. I have also made reference to the teenagers by introducing the idea of the students prom which takes place at the end of a school year. I have discussed why going to university is the best option. Finally I have talked about St Edmunds Day, this is where all students go off the school premises and do a day of activities. I am not convinced that stereotype students may want to read my magazi ne because of how unusual the title is. The magazine discusses mostly academinc things such as GCSE results and awards. However there is a slight possibility that sterotypes who admire fashion , might be willing to read my magazine because it does discuss certain aspects of the fashion industry.
  • What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
I think a school , college or even the universities that are fond, of making reference to other magazines which aim to educate, might distribute my media product. The reasons why a company, would want to distribute my magazine, may be because it explores different perspectives of the academic life installed in a child. My magazine, talks about what universities have to offer, why doing sports is investing in the well being of your own body and how that affects your concerntration skills in class. The magazine, lastly discusses what students have achieved and are capable of doing in the longterm. The magazine is very unique, in the sense that, it does not just talk about the students but also involves students parents. Inside my magazine, I have advertised a christmas fayre activity, that gives parents the opportunity to join in. Personally, I think this is an important feature for magazines of any genre to be able to do. Once this is stated in a  magazine, I strongly believe that it will help maximise the brand identity of a magazine. In my, magazine I have maximised the brand identity, to make readers fully aware of what the magazine represents in general.

  • Who would be the audience for your media product?

The audience for my magazine would be from 13 to17 years of age. The gender, would be mainly females because I have mainly used feminine colours in my magazine.  However, I have written about the recent sports in the news, so a small minority, are welcome to read my magazine. The main audience; females would have to be people that are forward-looking. The targetted audience, should have some interest in their education and the many possible advantages it brings along with it. For example, If I read a book on how to make a music magazine, I will then be able to experience what is like to take camera shots of artists performing and then I will be able to know how to make an actual music magazine. Therefore, in the longrun, when I start thinking of how to get a job, the skills that I used to make a music magazine, will enable me make this into a profession. The targetted audience should atleast, have some interest in doing any kind of exercise whether it be from anything such as walking, upto rowing a boat.

  • How did you attract/address your audience?

In my opinion, the title "Studious" is first of all absolutely unusual and secondly a very empowering word, to describe a student. Therefore I thought that the word would  and should reflect that same identity in my magazine.  In addition to this, I find it sounds very similar to the word "Student". Therefore I have not dispersed from the main topic, which was to make the magazine, seem like a college/student magazine. I also included a section that talks about proms for 16 and 17 year olds. I have talked about what students have acheived academically, which should engage the 13 years olds minds aswell. I have also included a real- life story that should involve all groups of age. For the whole magazine cover, I have used bright feminine colours that will catch the audiences attention immediately. My magazine speaks to the main audience in first person, as if I was talking to them in person. It speaks to them in a very conversational manner.

  • What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

In order to complete my media product, I used photoshop, publisher, a scanner, a digital camera and blogger. I have learnt, that it is crucial to know the functions of the different technologies in order to complete your product. I have also learnt that it is not always straight forward to do, as you can sometimes get confused between the names for the tools. One thing I have definately learnt, is that, it is also fast and efficient in enabling you get a piece of information across to the audience.
