Content Analysis of Three Magazines
Student iD issue No.13
- The first double page spread we see that the content page is a series of pictures across both pages. All the people in the photographs are smiling, which is a positive impression to readers. Colloquial language is used alongside an interview of a teacher, to inform the reader that the main target audince is for young teenagers.
- Colourful backgrounds are on each page, to attract the reader and make them pay attention to the information provided.
- A double page spread of a 'creative writing' story to inspire young children to read and write in the near future.
- The layout of the text is not in a standard form, words have been slanted or have been put in a bigger font than other text on the page.Different style fonts are used according to the topic.
Common Sense:
- Unlike the 'Student ip' magazine, a plain background for most pages in the magazine has been used.
- Health issues are mainly issued in this magazine like anorexia, your weight and drinking alchol signifying to us the readers; that the main target audience in not for young tennagers but older tennagers which is different from the 'Student iD' magazine.
- This magazine also talks about teenagers reading books, however the only difference is that, this magazine talks about World Book Day whereas the other magazine provides you with a variety of books to read for pleasure and in your own spare time.
- In comparison to both magazines 'Student iD' and 'Common Sense'. At the back of the magazines, there is a page explaining what university is about and involves. This suggests that the target audience is mainly for old tennagers whereas the other magazine is aimed at young teenagers.
Student iD Spring edition:
- Text is mainly in coloumn form, to make the magazine look neat and formal unlike 'student iD' and 'Common Sense'. This makes the reader have a positvie impression of the magazine therefore older teenagers are likely to buy the magazine.
- In in the middle page of the magazine, there is a 2 doublepage spread of girls and boys being unexpectedly photographed, which is not shown in the above migazines.
- A photograph of the prime minister - Gordon Brown has been placed at eyelevel, to make you see this first and read the article. The title is in red signifying to the reader that the article is very important. The magazine in general takes into consideration childrens education from a political perspective and not an academic view.
- Coming up events are talked about such as films and sports events. To engage you the readers to have an active mind .
